The Rite of Christian Initiation is an entrance process into the Catholic way of life.  An Inquiry period is held every fall for anyone curious about the Catholic faith or anyone interested in joining the church.  After this period of basic introduction, participants who wish to join the faith, start their formation by meeting with community members weekly.  They attend Sunday Mass, study the scriptures, the teachings, and the traditions of the Catholic Church.  Participants are led and supported in prayer and introduced to the church community life.  Individuals, who discern their readiness, prepare for the Easter sacraments and join at the Easter Vigil.   This journey is designed to lovingly support those who are seeking to know, understand, and live the Catholic faith.

RCIA Inquiry Sessions

Are you interested in becoming Catholic, or are you just curious about the Catholic faith?  You are invited to meet with other interested people in a process of inquiry and formation.  The inquiry sessions begin in the latter half of August and continue until the end of September each year.  Joining these sessions does not mean that you are committing to become Catholic, only that you would like to learn more.  Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults inquiry sessions are informal and are designed to welcome those inquiring, answer any questions and introduce you to a Christian way of life in the Catholic tradition.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in learning more about the Catholic way of life, please contact Monica Weber (753-4833), or the parish office (753-3548).

INQUIRY SCHEDULE

First group meeting is scheduled for   August, 2022.  The Inquiry sessions will continue for approximately six weeks. Even if you have missed the first meeting and are interested in knowing more, call Monica.  Everyone is always welcome.

RCIA Process

Picture
The RCIA is a process of conversion.  The RCIA is for and about people: people on the move, people being remade in the image of Christ, people reborn in the Spirit, people on a journey toward faith.

The RCIA does not bring about conversion;
                        only  God brings about
  conversion.

The RCIA process is
a four-step journey to faith.

The first step is the pre-catechumenate.  This is a time for inquirers to hear the Word and a time for the community members to listen to the inquirers  and answer their questions.

The second step is the catechumenate.  At this point the catechumens are joined by sponsors from the community who serve as guides, companions and models of faith.  During this time catechumens are instructed in faith, participate in community activities, join with the community in prayer and worship, and work actively with the community in the apostolic life of the Church.

The third step is the Lenten period before initiation.  Beginning with the First Sunday of Lent, the catechumens enter into their “40-day retreat” to focus on deepening their awareness of God’s grace through prayer.  The night of the Easter Vigil at which the Sacraments of Initiation are celebrated and the catechumens are made one with the Body of Christ called Church.

The fourth step is the post-initiation phase.  This step is a time for the newly initiated and the community to move forward together toward a closer relationship with each other and toward a deeper understanding of God’s Word.  This step is only one in the continuing journey for the rest of a Christian’s life.  We are all constantly growing toward closer relationships and deeper understandings of the mysteries of our faith.
